Blog Social Networking

Technology has grown tremendously over the last few decades. Every household owns at least one computer and every adult owns a cellphone. Not only has technology, specifically social networking, helped corporations, it has also helped the common user. It has elevated society as a whole. It has become the most common way for people to connect and get their news. Corporations have utilized social networking to market their business. For example, businesses use Linkedin's sales navigator tool to prospect potential business leads. Businesses publish articles on Linkedin as a way to increase their brands "awareness". The common user can also benefit from using Linkedin. Linkedin has provided people to connect with other professionals. It has become to top social media platform for professional use. "But what really makes Linkedin helpful is that it allows users to share their online Rolodexes. Shally Steckerl used to hunt talent for Microsoft and is a leader in online recruiting. With Linkedin, he can find people faster using a vastly increased network of contacts."

However, there is always a "dark side". The excessive use of social media and networking may affect someones sociability, making them anti-social. In 2010, "the Pew Research Center found that half of American teenagers - defined in the study as ages 12 through 17 - send 50 or more text messages a day and that one third send more than 100 a day." That was in 2010, imagine the number of messages being sent everyday now with Facebook's messenger. The bigger social networking grows, the more likely their will be cyber-bullying. With the growth of social networking, people are now more conscious with what they post; Criminals can use sensitive information against the user. "Few of these users realize that the information they post, when combined with new technologies for gathering and compiling data, can create a fingerprint - like a pattern of behavior."

As technology grows, cyber-security infrastructures will also be built. Privacy will eventually be the most important thing a user can have while on the internet.
