Issues of privacy and confidentiality are related to new media because of the potential harm from hackers. People do not want sensitive information about themselves leaked to the public. In 2017, Equifax breach, one of the largest cyberattacks ever, affected more than 147.9 million people. Sensitive information such as full names, social security numbers, birth dates, and addresses were released. A recent case, Cambridge Analytica, a data firm, gained access to private information from more than 50 million Facebook users. It was reported that the data may have been used to influence presidential elections. Internet privacy and confidentiality is the new buzz now that people realize the potential harm it could cause.
